Sheffield BSF (Building Schools for the Future)
Using Viewpoint For Projects
Vinci Construction UK
The Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project is tasked with renewing or rebuilding every secondary school in the country.
The BSF Programme began in 2005 and was divided into different phases over 15 years. Five local authorities were selected by the Government to lead the way for the BSF scheme. Sheffield Council was chosen as one of these pathfinder authorities.
Sheffield BSF is one of the larger schemes in the Government’s BSF Programme. The County Council selected one of Britain’s largest construction companies, VINCI Construction UK (formerly Taylor Woodrow Construction), to ensure every secondary school in Sheffield was rebuilt or renewed.
The £158million project involved rebuilding the following secondary schools; Newfield, Silverdale, Yewlands and Talbot Special Educational Needs (SEN) school. Along with the refurbishment of High Storrs and Firth Park and the design and build of a brand new SEN school in the north of the city.
VINCI Construction UK selected the Viewpoint For Projects™ integrated collaboration solution because they were looking for a partner with a track record for managing major programmes of work.
A key requirement was to allow different supply chains access to different projects. The Viewpoint For Projects collaboration solution allowed VINCI Construction UK to keep each school separate, whilst keeping all project information within the one extranet. The discussions module was used to replace email chains and to manage communications and commenting within the projects.
