Sir Robert McAlpine

In 2004 Sir Robert McAlpine signed a design and build contract to build a 60,000 seat stadium. The major challenge was to complete the project for the next Premier League season – a demanding timetable, especially in view of other high profile stadium projects running into considerable difficulties.

With schedules tight, the complexity of the project required all parties in the development to collaborate closely. Over 100 different organizations were involved, with over 450 individuals using Viewpoint For Project Collaboration. The site covered an area of 17 acres and the program consisted of four separate projects, namely infrastructure, the North Bridge building, the Northern Triangle, and the Emirates Stadium itself.

During the course of the assignment, over 70,000 drawings were uploaded, and over 700,000 documents downloaded. This monumental task of project management was deemed a major success when the stadium was handed over two weeks ahead of schedule — and on budget.

The finished stadium consists of 60,000 seats, 7,000 Club Level seats with attached restaurants, and 150 executive boxes, with a capacity to serve 2,000 meals on match day. Also included are 250 catering serving points and over 900 restrooms, capacity for up to 250 wheelchair users, 41 TV camera positions, and 215 seats for media.
