Darwin Centre Phase 2

The Natural History Museum began construction work on the second phase of the Darwin Centre in June 2006. The first phase was opened to the public in September 2002.

Europe wide construction company BAM Construct UK (formerly HBG Construction) was selected from a long list of potential contractors, along with Danish architects,C .F. Møller, to complete the £78 million project that is becoming one of London’s most recognised buildings.

The scheme comprised of a unique sprayed concrete cocoon shaped structure, in a glass box. The distinctive building is home to the world’s largest collection of plants and insects, with over 28million insects and 3million plants. The 8 floor building boasts a state-of-theart laboratory for up to 220 scientists, a lecture room, the Attenborough Studio and a UK biodiversity resource called the Angela Marmont Centre.

The Natural History Museum selected Viewpoint For Projects™ due to the number of advantages that the solution offers. Alongside the system’s ease of use, the most crucial benefit was the cost savings realised throughout the project. Raising funds through donations means that the delivery of the project on budget is vital.
