Hatch Mott MacDonald Gains Control of Coast Meridian Overpass Project with Viewpoint For Projects™.
The Coast Meridian Overpass Project comprised of the design and construction of a new multi-span bridge connecting Coast Meridian Road and Lougheed Highway with Kingsway Avenue and Broadway Street in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.
The elevated structure includes four traffic lanes, bicycle lanes, and a sidewalk, as well as road and intersection improvements. Hatch Mott MacDonald (HMM) was retained by the City of Port Coquitlam as the Owner’s Engineer on this design-build project. HMM provided assistance in the preparation of a reference concept, detailed cost estimate, and the Request for Proposal (RFP) documents, as well as provided comprehensive engineering services throughout the build process.
When developing the reference concept, HMM prepared a preliminary design for various components including a preliminary structural design of the overpass and the erection sequence. The company also oversaw the detailed design and construction processes. Furthermore, HMM facilitated the coordination of preliminary civil, electrical, environmental, and geotechnical design for the reference concept.
To manage the complex project, HMM required an integrated collaboration software tool to ensure that all information, communication, and processes were managed efficiently. Viewpoint For Projects™ was used throughout the process, helping to manage the design process and the many discussions around the design of the project.
Viewpoint For Projects was then used during the build phase to manage documents, workflows, and communications processes. The tasks were assigned to specific working groups and subcontractors ensuring complete control of the program of works.
