Viewpoint today announced a partnership with drone mapping software platform DroneDeploy to help construction companies track job progress, save time and reduce risk with drone maps and 3D models. Drone technology is becoming increasingly prevalent on jobsites as an efficient means of collecting aerial data to aid in design, planning and construction management.

Seattle-based Dexter + Chaney was founded in 1981 by Mark Dexter and John Chaney. It has more than 1,100 customers and primarily serves specialty subcontractors — particularly in mechanical, electrical and plumbing — as well as the heavy civil and general contractor markets. The merger of its customers with those of Portland, Ore.-based Viewpoint will bring the customer base to more than 8,000, the firms say.

As a part of a comprehensive strategy to transform the construction industry through improved digital process in all phases of the project lifecycle, Viewpoint today announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Dexter + Chaney, a market leader in cloud-based construction enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. The addition of Dexter + Chaney’s product suite will be a powerful component of Viewpoint’s strategy to drive further the adoption of technology in construction.

Construction is a booming business in the Pacific Northwest, and two companies that make cloud-based construction software are becoming one, with Portland-based Viewpoint acquiring Seattle’s Dexter & Chaney for an undisclosed amount.

Portland-based Viewpoint Construction Software said Tuesday it plans to buy a rival in Seattle, Dexter + Chaney. Viewpoint said it believes the deal is the largest ever in the two companies' market, enterprise resource planning software for the construction industry.

Industry leaders Viewpoint, BKD LLP & FMI Corporation have teamed up to perform deep research into construction productivity issues in order to make practical recommendations for areas of improvement. The lag in global construction productivity has been widely reported by a number of leading research firms and has been estimated at as much as 1.2 trillion dollars annually. Improving productivity by as much as 10-20 percent could make a huge impact on the construction economy, providing more funding and/or resources for critical infrastructure projects which have been traditionally underfunded.
